UAF is #12 in Top Colleges for Outdoor Adventures

12. University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska
One of my favorite things to do at UAF is to hike to Smith Lake during the winter time. The lake is frozen and if you go at night it's likely that the Northern Lights are dancing. It truly is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen! UAF also has an amazing trail system, you can check it out here!

At UAF we also have an amazing outdoor recreational program called Outdoor Adventures. Through OA you are able to rent out camping equipment, and all sorts of cool outdoor equipment! Check them out here!

According to, UAF is number 12 in top colleges for outdoor adventures and "is the school to be for all of you snow lovers." They discuss how UAF is located a few hours away from the entrance to Denali National Park, and is surrounded by 1,100 acres of forest, "which encourages students to cross-country ski at all times- on a Tuesday or between classes."
They note that UAF Outdoor Adventures "offers courses in mountaineering, ice climbing, dog mushing, ice fishing, glacier camping, and downhill skiing." This is along with "rafting, backpacking, canoeing and inflatable kayaking Wilderness Welcome trips in the summer for incoming first-year students." The Outbound Collective also points out that "on UAF’s campus, students can climb rock or ice on their outdoor climbing!"
